Sarah Fatherly, ’91, has begun her new position as Associate Provost and Dean of University Programs at Queens University in Charlotte, North Carolina. Sarah previously worked at Otterbein University in Ohio where she was a professor of history and chair of the Integrative Studies program. Dr. Fatherly earned her PhD in history at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. An accomplished teacher, scholar, and administrator, she won the 2010 Philip S. Klein Book Prize Award for her book, _Gentlewomen and Learned Ladies: Women and Elite Formation in Eighteenth-Century Philadelphia_. Given biannually by Pennsylvania Historical Association, this award recognizes the best book on Pennsylvania history. This fall Sarah has an article, “Tending the Army: Women and the British General Hospital in North American, 1754-1763,” in the scholarly journal _Early American Studies_. For Sarah, teaching and scholarship are linked. As she put it upon receiving her book award: “The process of working on my own historical scholarship while helping undergraduate (students) learn how to develop and hone their own research skills in the field is very rewarding.” Congratulations, Sarah, on your scholarship and new position! We are proud of you and our many other alums over the years pursuing successful careers in the higher ed, nonprofit, and private sectors.
